Computer-guided implant placement is a process in which, using specialized software, the dentist prepares a personalised treatment plan for placing dental implants in the patient's mouth. A specialized surgical guide is then used to place the implants with great precision and an almost atraumatic approach into the jawbone.
The patient must first undergo a CT scan of the jaws (CBCT) so that the scan data can be entered into the specialized software. Using the CBCT scan data, this software can reconstruct the exact anatomy of the patient's jaws in three dimensions. The software also contains implant "libraries" from which the dentist selects the type of implant to be used and determines all the clinical parameters (dimensions, position, angulation of the implants in the jaw) that will help achieve correct surgical placement of the implant in the mouth. Once the patient's treatment plan has been finalised based on all the above data, personalised surgical guides are manufactured using a 3D printer.
With these guides, we achieve atraumatic placement and minimal surgical burden for our patients during the placement of dental implants in the oral cavity.
