Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Dentistry

Aesthetic dentistry is a blend of "art and science" aimed at improving the appearance of the smile — the shape, colour, position and size of the teeth. The continuous application of technical and artistic skills allows the dentist to achieve an outstanding aesthetic and functional result. However, for this result to be achieved, correct diagnosis and planning before starting any treatment are essential. We must always remember that oral health and function are more important than an aesthetic result.

The term "aesthetic dentistry" is often confused with "cosmetic dentistry", even though they are different. They may share the same goal — making the smile more beautiful — but cosmetic dentistry aims simply to improve its appearance. Aesthetic dentistry, in addition to this, requires, as mentioned above, proper function as well as the health of the stomatognathic system.
A "Hollywood smile" with perfectly white and completely symmetrical teeth is an example of cosmetic dentistry. On the other hand, a natural smile that resembles the colour and shape of existing healthy teeth is an example of aesthetic dentistry.

AESTHETIC COMPOSITE RESIN FILLINGS

Using composite resin in various colours and translucencies, it is possible to correct chipped incisal edges, as well as the shape and colour (to a certain degree) of the front teeth of the dental arch.

PORCELAIN VENEERS

Porcelain veneers are a good, minimally invasive solution in cases where correction of tooth malformation, discolouration or position is needed, mainly in the front area. They are very thin restorations made of ceramic material (with no metal present), made in the desired shape and colour, and permanently bonded onto the outer surface of the teeth. 

They are made in the laboratory from an impression taken at the clinic. The colour of porcelain veneers remains unchanged over the years, and they show greater resistance to fracture compared with resin veneers.
